The Journey ...
What happens to your pots?
Once you've made your pots and left the studio, your creations will be left to dry for 24–48 hours for the potter to trim off excess clay. We then 'photoshop' your pots so they look amazeballs!
All pots get left to dry out naturally; we do not force-dry your pots. The drying process usually takes about 4 weeks, depending on the size and thickness of your creation and the weather. Thick pottery takes longer to dry, which can hold up the process. Once all the pots are dry, they're loaded into the kiln for a bisque firing, which takes 48 hours. Once complete, all pots are sorted and washed, ready for glazing.
The studio uses brush-on glazes, which require the potter to hand paint each item with three coats of glaze. This is quite a lengthy process; each layer of glaze must dry in-between and must be applied properly to prevent issues. Pots are left to dry for 24 hours before being glaze-fired one last time.
All pots then get sorted into batches, put into date order, wrapped, and packaged ready for collection. The pottery-making process takes time, and as the potter is a one-(won)man-band, the turnaround is usually 8 weeks but can take longer. So please bear with us as we finish your items. We will be in touch when your items are ready to collect.
Process
While we hope your finished items turn out exactly as you envisioned, there's no guarantee that your items will make the entire process and result in what you anticipate. Thick pottery takes longer to dry, and if pots are too thin, they may crack or break. Pots can take up to 4 weeks to dry, prepare, and bisque fire before being glazed.
Collection
The potter will notify you when your pottery is ready via text message. You can either collect your items or we can post them at an extra cost. Items will be kept at the studio for a maximum of 2 months once completed and will be donated to charity if not collected after such a time.
